“Second Life has been and is for me a very important experience.
The starting effect of curiosity for this metaverse soon turned into the wish of saying something trying to create a definite personality.
Building gave me that chance, that is, the ability to creating objects of any kind, from the simplest to the most complex. All that after attending some courses offered by the school of Building at Secondlearning. Later on, after exploring this metaverse far and wide, I realized I wanted to do something that would go beyond the usual rule of structures or classical framing; so I tried to express my ideas through different sculptures. I started creating geometrical shapes then I used more difficult techniques such as “the shade”, which gives the possibility to manipulate a unique prim in a very complex way. As a result I obtained unexpected and different shapes quite unlike the ones anyone can find around.”
“Respawn”
“It is clear that I’ve been working hard to get this result trying to get the good ones a and long nights spent trying to understand how to frame at my best some works that could convey an emotion…. even the simplest, and that it could attract people to an idea I had in my mind or just to share my message with them.
In October I had the honour to be at “Virtual Renaissance” in Florence, with 5 of my work printed on 2 curtains decorating one of the room of Museum of Natural Science – Anthopological Section.
In March 2009 some of my works has been exposed in big monitors at Rome in the Adriano’s Temple during an exhibition about Digital Art.
I have partecipated for three years at the Burning Life in SL an exhibition made in the same time at the Nevada desert in USA called Burning Man.
In this 3 years of sl i have participated at many exhibitions and exposed to the most important Museum of SL : Pirats Gallery – AHO Museum – Primtings Museum – Delacroix Hall – Crescent Moon Museum - Piramide Art Gallery – Museo del Metaverso - Diabolus Art Space – UWA (University West Australia) Gallery - Aeonia Arts and many other important gallery.” Solkide Auer

Artist: GWEN CARRILON – USA
Gwen Carillon’s work is known for its shimmering glass textures, signature prim torture, and for its heart. She makes no distinction between SL and RL – she says, “creativity knows no bounds and accepts no limitations,” and applies that philosophy in both worlds.
Gwen’s artwork has been shown in many Second Life galleries and museums, including the Crescent Moon Museum and the New Media Consortium. Her sculpture, “Rebirth,” an interactive meditation sphere, won the award for Best in Second Life in judged competition at The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, California, in June 2008. A representation of “Rebirth” is on display at The Tech.
A collaboration with pianist Enniv Zarf (Paul Kwo) led to a series of performance art concerts in which Gwen sculpted while Enniv played, and each artist inspired and drew from the other. The result of one performance was a CD entitled “Rebirth” after Gwen’s sculpture.
“Rebirth”
Gwen’s commitment to art recently took her into television, as the new host of Metaverse Arts on Treet TV.
Along with sim design / development ,interiors, jewelry and art, Gwen has brought her unique vision to fashion design. Her label Gwen Carillon Designs is flamboyant and whimsical perspective on couture
Gwen Carillon is a real-life sculptor, painter, poet and jeweler and DJ who took her skills to Second Life for the creative freedom it afforded. Her sim Elements in Design houses her unique and beautiful clothing, furniture, home accessories, jewelry, art, and sculpture. Artist: GIOVANNA CERISE – Italy
“Teacher and musician in RL , my “adventure by change” begins in SL in December of 2008 and it is at work tied up mine in RL, that of teacher. Artist: KICCA IGALY – Italy
“In SL I started out as Kicca Igaly April 13, 2007. I went for the first time in Second Life for Beauty … Coming from previous experience of painting in RL and loving the Exchange, I chose to spend my time looking for new forms of artistic expression. SL In fact, I found the tools I needed and after a fast course in learning to INDIRE, I began to experiment with sculpture, digital art or building, call it what you want and the adventure began. The forms of expression that I prefer, rely on manipulation of the ” prim”.
“The Wrong Shadow”
Usually, my work starts at an artistic project that took shape in my mind before putting his hand to what I jokingly call “digital scalpel,” and when the lines are clear of the project do a search to find the tools that I consider more suitable to achieve it. I participation on numerous exhibitions in SL, in museums and galleries in land and not Italian. Among the different experiences, you certainly remember the contribution to BURNING LIFE 09, with a collaborative effort with Nessuno Myoo, named ArtEvolutionCube, housed in one of twelve sim available to the Art Department, headed by White Lebed. Experience that was repeated in February 2010 with a Burniversity masterclass, for the project Afterburn. In June 2010 we were selected together with over 300 artists from all over the world to participate actively
for a large celebrations organized by Linden for the seventh birthday of SL.
In this event (SL7B) we displayed our work titled ‘Serendipity’.
Event that with great joy was also repeated in 2011 (SL8B) with a new installation entitled ‘The Aleph’. In January 27, 2011, Memorial Day on Nazi atrocities, for an invitation from Simba Schumann to the inauguration of its new Garden of Arte Libera,
ness, Kicca Igaly and Icarus Robbiani, have created in a unique art exhibition dedicated to this delicate theme, tled ‘Not to forget’, having a good consensus. A demonstration of the fact that art is certainly one of the means
most effective in raising awareness to issues considered difficult to treat. I think that I created … a real new career in the metaverse, which never fails to give me great satisfaction even on a human level through fantastic people I have met.” Kicca Igaly

Artist: GRACIE KENDAL – USA
“Often I feel like so much emphasis is put on how beautiful you are, and how thin you are, and not a lot of emphasis is put on what you can do and how smart you are. I’d like to change that, change the emphasis of what’s important when looking at a woman.” —Margaret Kilgallen
GRACIE KENDAL (KRISTINE SCHOMAKER) is a new media and performance artist, painter and art historian living and working at the Brewery artist complex in Los Angeles California. She received her BA in Art History and her MA in Studio Art from California State University at Northridge. For over 14 years, she has been working with various interdisciplinary art forms including online virtual worlds to explore notions of online identity and the hybridization of digital media with the physical world.
Whether physical or virtual, the object-based work Kristine creates combines elements of color-based gestural abstraction, animation, pattern and design, neo-Baroque and Populence. Using installation, text,
photography, mixed media, video and performance for her ongoing conceptual project My Life as an Avatar, she visualizes a narrative/dialogue with her virtual persona, Gracie Kendal.
“Ce n’est pas une peinture”
In early 2012, Kristine turned an art gallery into a re-creation of Gertrude Stein’s salon and held a mixed reality performance/dinner party at the opening. Over the summer she also performed The Bald and the Beautiful in which she had her head shaved as a statement to challenge society’s standards of beauty.
Kristine documents her experiences as an avatar on ber blog and she has published four books on her new media work. She has an active life in the arts, previously teaching art history at Antelope Valley College and Pasadena City College, forming an artist collective in the Los Angeles area, organizing and curating numerous art exhibitions and she is a member of the Los Angeles Art Association, Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art, College Art Association and Siggraph.
Currently, Kristine is working as an Artist-in-Residence through the Linden Endowment for the Arts creating an immersive virtual Environment that she is planning to bring into the physical world via sculpture/public art work. In 2011, she won honorable mention in the Fabrik Magazine juried competition and in 2010 she won the jurors award at the Annual Juried art Exhibition at California State University at Northridge.
Artist: EM LARSSON – Canada
Moira was drawn to photography as an art form for many years, having taken thousands of pictures in the days of film and darkrooms. In time she became discouraged by the use of chemicals and wastefulness of film and turned her attention to other artistic forms. But the potential unleashed with the advent of the digital age has caused her to come back to the favourite pursuit of her youth.
“So We Dance!”
While photography can be a way of capturing, recording and documenting the visual world as it appears, Moira considers her camera a means of artistic expression. She believes altering images using software is perfectly valid so she uses her camera and computer to make art. Because she is fully aware that “everyone has a camera” she strives to create something unique.
Moira first started sharing the results of her work in Second Life as the avatar, Em Larsson. The opportunity to try out being in artist in SL opened a new chapter and perhaps even a whole new book in her life. Her success and the enthusiasm of her in-world fans have encouraged her to present her work in the “real” world, where she has exhibited in several RL galleries and even won awards for her work.

Artist: DACO MONDAY – Italy
“An artistic pathway, a hymn to utopia, a light, a North star which leads mankind. My art starts from existential issues and reflections that occur in the cultural change which affects mankind nowadays.
The art is simply a tool which makes “human knowledge” more human.
It simply disseminates modern global culture, it interprets it as a multi reality, a reality made up of different individuals, of interconnected universes that create the dynamism of global universal culture.” Daco Monday

Artist: HAVEIT NEOX – USA
“I feel that I grew up in a garden. Nearly always a barefoot kid with stained feet from the earth, I constructed primitive cities with yard debris, mud, and twigs. Colorful paint and cutout pictures from magazines enriched the surfaces. Interior and exterior spaces fascinated me as I observed bugs take up residence. Years later, as an adult and artist, the cities advanced from their mud origins, to illustrated paper scrolls, ceramics and metals, and currently to pixels. In Real Life, I have displayed my artworks mainly in Los Angeles, New York, and Paris. The theme is often based on urban settings of my own invention. In Dec. 2009, I was lead to the virtual world of Second Life, which I enjoy as an art studio. For the first time in my life, I now witness people (by virtue of their avatars) entering and using the spaces I created. In the context of the city, the interior and exterior spaces both hold my artwork, and are themselves a habitable exhibit.
This demographic map of the world illustrates the disturbing foundation for my 3D presentation. It reveals various levels of security and lack of security for women by way of the map’s gray code. (The free domain map was taken from Wikipedia. I altered the colors and textures in Photoshop but left the statistics intact). The wife, children, and all the surrounds are rendered as colorless paper dolls. This faceless style emphasizes how they become perceived as “objects”. Of the complex issues involved with violence against women, I’ve chosen the theme of woman as property and its damaging consequences. Only the man portrayed in the sculpture has a degree of realism to him. He is the subject, while everything else is object. The attitude of seeing women as property and holding both governing and physical power over them is shamelessly commonplace throughout the world.” Haveit Neox
“MY PROPERTY” A sculpture
“Apart from my painting and sculpting in RL, I keep my imagination oiled by constructing 3D installations in SL, ranging from small works to sim wide presentations*. Artist: NESSUNO MYOO – Italy
“My name is Nessuno Myoo and born to new life on 21 September 2007. Immediately I began to wander the land for more disparate trying to meet all my curiosity about what seemed to me then as a new and powerful means of emotional communication. Through the courses attended in Second Learning to INDIRE I have learned to manipulate my first prim. The meeting with the artist, gallery owner and friend Lion Igaly I was then introduced into the virtual world of art. Musician and the passion of the art on rl I found so enthusiastic to do the sculptor in the metaverse. For my work I have decoded plain language and original that is expressed in the way of working the prim: the twist, stretch, empty and then refill my fun so … The wood and metal are mainly the materials which I favor. Sometimes sanded and polished, and other corroded by strong contrasts. Different visions for different sensations. With my essential figurative try to express the beauty, energy, light, movement, poetry. “ Nessuno Myoo

Artist: BRYN OH – Canada
In her first life, Bryn Oh lives in Toronto, Canada, and makes her living there as a painter whose work is sold by a major galley to collectors around the world. Having received her art education in Toronto and Florence, Italy, her paintings have been exhibited in many galleries in North America and Europe. A meticulous and highly skillful landscape painter, she uses high quality oils and acrylics that she makes herself from raw materials, working the paint with a wide variety of layering and sculptural brush techniques, on large canvasses that engulf the viewer in an almost immersive experience of the human impact on the natural world.
“I am a professional oil painter who has come into second life to create new media art ideas that don’t work as well in the oil painting medium.
A “virtual environment” is an installation that takes place in a virtual world and in some cases it is a “hybrid” which means it is showing in both a virtual world and real world location at the same time. So for example Family unit was shown for a month to thousands of people in the virtual world while also playing on a monitor in a real world museum in Rome, Italy.” Bryn Oh

Artist: EUPALINOS UGAJIN – Jupiter
“Could it be the short distance between an idea and a prim ?
When I say I play Second Life people often hastily reply: but it is not REAL!
My answer is: as real as all the tools/objects humanity made.
(If I had to define it…) Real is what might happens when you sit in front of a tree or anything we did not invent. The usual Virtual vs. Real opposition does not hold water.
Your inventions/your avatar’s appearance can easily be the meeting point between two persons who will never “see” each other. Could this be a more direct connection between our brains while skipping the “how is the weather?” clothing people tend to use in First Life ?
“A Kou Simulation”
The random (shuffle for music) button is probably the greatest invention to survive in a world where you receive in one week as much information as someone living during the 18th century had in a lifetime.
When this button is not present I will somehow try to invent it.” Eupalinos Ugajin
Artist: NOKE YUITZA – Spain
Noke uses the Virtual Worlds as a way to experiment with new supports for the art. She especially uses a mixed technique of photography and sculpture. The subjects she explores are based on the emotive concept of the dual, the divided, the hidden, and the inner reflection. She has have shown at many virtual galleries and especially enjoys creating installations as an exploration for the senses.
